What's In A Name? (Part 2)
What’s in a Name? (Part 2)
Last week we began looking at the narrative in the book of Matthew regarding the Incarnation of Jesus. As we focused on the significance of the name given by God through the angel for Joseph to use in naming the child, we were reminded that Jesus came to save people from their sins. We were reminded that Advent as a season is a time of penitential expectation for the coming of the Christ—remembering the Incarnation and anticipating His future return.
There is another name included in that same narrative, a name that recalls a prophecy given in Isaiah’s day. Matthew includes the name, and the meaning, for our benefit—Immanuel, God with us. To say this name is significant would be a gross understatement. Yet in what ways? How is God with us? Why would God be with us? What is the effect of God being with us? Join us this Sunday as we investigate some of these questions and celebrate the Incarnation of the Son of God. I’m looking forward to seeing you!
