Christ - The Head of the Church

The name Jesus plays well in polite conversation and acceptance speeches, as long as we’re not too heavy, too insistent about Him. It’s still granted that Jesus is an important part of our American heritage. Just like Mohammed and Gandhi and Buddha.

How very Colossian of us.

The Colossian Christians were good people. They loved each other and they loved Jesus and they had the hope of eternal life in Christ. But their tolerance was killing them. So when Paul wrote to get them back on track, he started at square one: with the preeminence of Jesus.

Last week in Part 1, Jeff shared some of what it means that Jesus is the image of God and the firstborn of creation. Good stuff! This week, in Part 2 we'll look at what it means for Him to be head of the church.
